Brighton Hospital has changed its name to the Brighton Center for Recovery to better reflect its specialty of substance abuse treatment, according to a statement today by St. John Providence Health System, its Warren-based owner.

In the statement, St. John said, “The word ‘recovery’ has great meaning in the addiction community and symbolizes hope for body, mind and spirit.”
Substance abuse treatment has changed over the years to include more than an inpatient hospital stay. It also encompasses outpatient programs, prevention, community services and ongoing recovery maintenance, the statement said.
Brighton Hospital, founded in 1953, is the nation’s second-oldest alcohol and drug treatment addiction center with 99 rehab beds.
In early 2011, Brighton fully merged with St. John after a nearly decade-long affiliation agreement.
Over the past year, Brighton has been integrating operations with St. John. For example, Brighton now is connected with St. John’s email system and employee benefits program.
